Welcome, my name is Beccy Pook and I am a psychotherapeutic counsellor working with individual adults in Brighton and Hove, and across the UK, face to face, by telephone and online.

You may be thinking of having counselling to help you deal with particular difficulties in life that you’re facing right now. You may want to explore events and experiences in your past. You may simply want time and space to learn more about yourself. Whatever your reason for seeking counselling I hope you’ll find enough information in these pages to decide if you would like an initial appointment to consider whether I might be the right counsellor for you.

I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counselling and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

COVID-19 update

Please note, that during the COVID-19 pandemic I am working online or by telephone. Once it is safe to do so I will also resume face to face sessions at Fiveways' Therapy Rooms.

The pandemic has caused significant change to people's lives and I am working to support clients with this external stress and the complex situations and emotions it is creating and opening up.

I work with warmth, compassion and equity to create space for you to explore and release a full range of feelings and experiences. My role as a counsellor is to be alongside you, creating a supported therapeutic space for reflection and emotional release. We can work together to explore patterns of being and thinking that you feel a need to prioritise, resulting in shifts and changes in your perspectives.  If you are seeking supported challenge I will encourage you to examine alternative views on situations, opening space for reflection and consideration; so as to enable you to make your choice of positive changes. I will help you to recognise your own power and find ways to live your life as fully as you possibly can. Including finding ways to process and manage responses to stressors and difficulties which are not in your power to control. At its most basic level counselling is a place where you have space and time to focus on yourself.

Counselling sessions can be carried out over a set and agreed number of sessions with a focus on a certain priority to reflect on or over a longer period of time. If you are new to counselling I can support you in exploring what you would like to focus on in your session time.

Counselling is not about being helped by someone else who suggests solutions to your problems, it is a process of discovery we make together.  Often this process can be difficult and challenging. You may want to talk about painful experiences, feelings or deep-rooted fears. You might be feeling embarrassment or shame. My role is to support you in taking the risk of sharing and helping you to take care of yourself.

Attending counselling myself enriched my life and allowed me to fully appreciate the extent of self-development it enables people to access. I became a counsellor in order to offer the same possibility to others.

I have found my counselling can play an important role in supporting people though external stress or feelings and thought processes that are internally challenging or unsettling. My clients often express that the professional counselling I provide is an accepting, open and non-judgemental environment that allows them time for self discovery. Giving you time and space to explore choice and support over time to gain responsibility for managing your fears. Investigating the ways we want to manage challenge that others bring to our lives

When I provide telephone counselling clients express it to be more effective than they anticipated. I have specialism in counselling people with addictions and those affected by addiction.

I also work in an agency specialising in counselling for addiction or those affected by addiction.  Before becoming a counsellor I worked in public sector roles. I am a parent to two adult sons and have experienced an eventful life to date, living alongside many of the different types of challenges that life can send our way.

Initial 30 min assessment is free
If we decide to work together the cost per session is £45.00 for 50 minutes face to face.

£40 for a telephone or online session.
I also have a limited number of concessional spaces available for those on lower incomes.

We may agree a fixed number of sessions (six is the minimum), if you wish to work on one particular priority. Alternatively, if you wish to work on deeper self-development or long standing issues, we can work in an open-ended way, reviewing at intervals.

We will generally meet weekly, at the same time each week. We would discuss this during or after the initial consultation to find a mutually convenient time.

We start with a free 30 minute telephone consultation. This will be to discuss your reasons for seeking counselling and give you a sense of how I work. If in agreeance we will then arrange an appointment for an initial consultation.

To arrange this email me at or call me on 07981 535052 I will get back to you as soon as possible and always within 24 hours.
