You may simply want time and space to learn more about yourself. Whatever your reason for seeking counselling I hope you’ll find enough information in these pages to decide if you would like an initial appointment to consider whether I might be the right counsellor for you.
I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counselling and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
BECCY POOK THERAPEUTIC COUNSELLING
Please note, that during the COVID-19 pandemic I am working online or by telephone. Once it is safe to do so I will also resume face to face sessions at Fiveways' Therapy Rooms.
The pandemic has caused significant change to people's lives and I am working to support clients with this external stress and the complex situations and emotions it is creating and opening up.
HOW I WORK
I work with warmth, compassion and equity to create space for you to explore and release a full range of feelings and experiences. My role as a counsellor is to be alongside you, creating a supported therapeutic space for reflection and emotional release. We can work together to explore patterns of being and thinking that you feel a need to prioritise, resulting in shifts and changes in your perspectives. If you are seeking supported challenge I will encourage you to examine alternative views on situations and holding space for you to consider and move through making positive changes. I will help you to recognise your own power and find ways to live your life as well as you possibly can including finding ways to process and manage responses stressors and difficulties which are not not in your power to control . My therapeutic counselling provides an opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings and to find your own solutions to any difficulties you identify. Helping you to recognise your own power and find ways to live your life as well as you possibly can. At its most basic level counselling is a place where you have space and time to focus on yourself.
Counselling sessions can be carried out over a set and agreed number of sessions with a focus on a certain priority to reflect on or over a longer period of time. If you are new to counselling I can support you in exploring what you would like to focus on in your session time.
Counselling is not about being helped by someone else who suggests solutions to your problems, it is a process of discovery we make together. Often this process can be difficult and challenging. You may want to talk about painful experiences, feelings or deep-rooted fears. You might be feeling embarrassment or shame. My role is to support you in taking the risk of sharing and helping you to take care of yourself.
Attending counselling myself enriched my life and allowed me to fully appreciate the extent of self-development it enables people to access. I became a counsellor in order to offer the same possibility to others.
I have found my counselling can play an important role in supporting people though external stress or feelings and thought processes that are internally challenging or unsettling. My clients often express that the professional counselling I provide is an accepting, open and non-judgemental environment that allows them time for self discovery. Giving you time and space to explore choice and support over time to gain responsibility for managing your fears. Investigating the ways we want to manage challenge that others bring to our lives
When I provide telephone counselling clients express it to be more effective than they anticipated. I have specialism in counselling people with addictions and those affected by addiction.
I also work in an agency specialising in counselling for addiction or those affected by addiction. Before becoming a counsellor I worked in public sector roles. I am a parent to two adult sons and have experienced an eventful life to date, living alongside many of the different types of challenges that life can send our way.
